Eagle Scout Information

The Town of Coats Parks & Recreation Department is proud to partner with Eagle Scouts who are looking to complete their required service project while making a meaningful, lasting impact on our community.

Eagle Scout projects play an important role in enhancing our parks, facilities, and natural spaces. These projects allow Scouts to demonstrate leadership, planning, and service while helping improve public spaces for residents and visitors alike.

Getting Started

Scouts interested in completing an Eagle Scout Service Project with the Town of Coats must first submit an Eagle Scout Project Interest Application. This application helps our staff better understand your project idea, timeline, and needs, and allows us to determine whether the project is a good fit for our parks and facilities.

Submitting an application does not guarantee project approval, but it is the first step in the review process. This application can be turned in at Coats Town Hall or emailed to recreation@coatsnc.org.

What Types of Projects Are a Good Fit?

While project ideas vary, successful Eagle Scout projects often:

  • Improve park facilities, trails, or amenities

  • Enhance natural areas or wildlife habitats

  • Create educational, recreational, or interpretive features

  • Address a specific need within a park or public space

Projects must be beneficial to the community, feasible to maintain long-term, and aligned with Town policies and park guidelines.

Project Review Process

Once your application is submitted:

  1. Parks & Recreation staff will review your application.

  2. You may be contacted for clarification or additional details.

  3. If the project is a good fit, you may be asked to submit a more detailed project proposal.

  4. Final approval must be received before any work begins.

Please note that timelines for review may vary based on staff availability, project complexity, and seasonal park operations.

Important Requirements

  • All Scouts and volunteers must complete a Volunteer Waiver & Release of Liability.

  • A parent or guardian must sign for Scouts under 18 years of age.

  • All work must follow Town of Coats safety requirements and staff direction.

  • Projects must include a plan for any required long-term maintenance.
